Rain Brushes for Photoshop

Quickly and easily add realistic rain conditions to your photographs with these versatile scatter brushes for Photoshop. They can be used to enhance a dark night scene, create an dramatic mood or just generally add a bit of atmosphere to your photos.

Simply select one of the brush presets, choose your desired angle (wind direction) and paint rain onto your image. We recommend creating a new blank layer for the brushes and setting the Blending Mode to Soft Light, you can also adjust the opacity of the brush to add more or less intense rain.

There are 8 unique brushes included, but 16 in total because we have created two versions of each brush (Left and Right direction) for convenience. The only difference between the Left and Right brushes is the angle of the rain.

How to Use with Photoshop

  • Open the 'Medialoot - Rain Brushes.abr' file with Photoshop to install the brushes
  • Open your photo in Photoshop
  • Create a new blank layer (We recommend Soft Light blending mode)
  • Select the Brush Tool (B)
  • Choose one of the rain brush presets to use
  • Set the foreground color to white
  • Adjust the size of the brush if necessary
  • Click and hold, then move the cursor to paint rain onto your image

How to Change the Rain Direction

  • Open the Brush Settings window (Window > Brush Settings)
  • Go to the 'Brush Tip Shape' section
  • Locate the field for 'Angle'
  • Enter a custom value in this box (positive values are left eg. 10º, negative values are right eg. -10º)

Tips: Begin with a lower brush opacity (20-60%) and smaller brush size to fill the whole area, then use a larger brush size and increase the opacity to 60-100% to add more rain to specific areas. Using multiple layers is also a good idea.
